My Life As It Is!

I began painting around the age of 10 years, when I went to Moa Island in Torres Straights with my mother.
I won a Highly commended in that year when I returned in the children's section of the Hunters Hill Art Show.
I was then taught watercolour paint while in High School on Saturday mornings. I went to East Sydney Tech from 1961 to 1966 and did some sculpture the first year, then I painted there for the next five years. I went to Queensland 1967 to work on a property for seven months, then came back and worked in a factory.
Whilst there we started a group of young artists of many talents, all under the age of 25 years and exhibited our works and designs on an annual basis from 1967 to 1970.
In 1971 I had a chance to visit aboriginal reserves with a reporter and Rev. Alfred Clint in South Australia and the Northern Territory and stayed for approximately a month on a banana plantation at Mission Beach where I assisted with odd jobs and sketched in my free time. When I returned home some of my sketches of the aboriginal people were published in The Sydney Morning Herald.
